Welcome to Earthly Kneads!

Welcome to our little slice of heaven on the web!

Who are we?

Earthly Kneads is a bakery that specializes in unique bread and pastry creations made with local, sustainable, and organic ingredients. We believe that food should not only taste good, but should also be good for you. In order for food to be healthy, we firmly believe that it should NOT contain artificial colors, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, genetically modified ingredients, harmful pesticides or herbicides, high fructose corn syrup, and trans fat. We pledge to do our best to honor these beliefs when baking our products.

We use organic wheat and spelt that have been grown in Michigan. The grains are stone ground and great care is taken to keep the temperature of the flour below 100°F. This preserves the natural enzymes and nutrients in the flour. We use both whole grain and "white" flours in our baked goods. The "white" flour has only had the bran removed and still contains the germ, the nutrient rich part of the grain. We NEVER use flour that has been bleached or brominated.

Julia Child once said, "How can a nation be great if its bread tastes like Kleenex?" We're out to prove that bread need not taste like cardboard! If it is prepared properly, a simple bread like Pain Ordinaire (traditional plain French Bread) can have a complex flavor and delicious aroma. There's nothing like the experience of taking a loaf of this bread out of the oven. It has a maze of small cracks all along its golden & crispy crust. When you break a piece of the bread off, the smell that carries on the plume of steam rising from it is a heady experience. The scent is reminiscent of the malted aroma that you get from a really good glass of beer. Combine a loaf of this bread with an herb and olive oil dip and you have something that simply surpasses words. Food doesn't need to be complicated to make you weak at the knees. Come see us and we'll show you what we mean!

Where are we?

We are in the process of moving our bakery to Downtown Muskegon! We hope to be open again in November. You will be able to find us next to The Cheese Lady.

You may also find us Saturdays at the Sweetwater Local Foods Market and once a month at the West Michigan Food Coop.
